Al-Jeel Al-Jadeed Circassian Folklore Troupe

Al-Jeel Al-Jadeed Circassian Folklore Troupe was established in 1950, as the first Jordanian Circassian folk troupe, and as one of the first folk troupes in the county. For this reason, the troupe is considered the school of the Circassian folklore in Jordan. Since its establishment, the troupe had presented tens of performances country wide, among the major ones were its many performances at the Jerash Festivals. Outside Jordan, the troupe performed in many countries; France, Cyprus, USA, Russia, Tunisia, UAE and Palestine.

Currently, the troupe has 40 young men and women as dancers, and 10 others as the technical and administrative staff. All the members are volunteers. The dances performed by the troupe are inspired by the rich Circassian cultural heritage. They reflect the traditions and the social relations in the Circassian society, both in its original form at the homeland (north Caucasus) and locally in Jordan. The troupe, despite its good relations and access to the expertise accumulated in the various folk institutions in the Circassian republics in the Caucasus, has established new lines based on the local music and dances of the Circassian community in Jordan. This has given its dances and music a unique flavor.

The troupe shows about 10 dances in its performances, the major ones being “Qafa”, “Yislameah”, and “Widg”, which are the main dances of the Circassians. The troupe has also a variety of other dances, however, “Abida”,for example is a dance inspired from the traditional dances of the local Circassian community in Jordan. “ Glakhstaneah” is also a new exciting dance that was recently introduced into the program.
