Welcome to the Al-Jeel Al-Jadeed Club

Cultural and Social Background

Al-Jeel Al-Jaded club was officially established in Amman in 1950 by a number of students of the only secondary school in Amman, which was called "Amman Secondary School".

The foundation of the club reflected the strong desire of the young founders to show pride in and safeguard their Circassian cultural heritage under which they grew up within their families which settled in Amman and its suburbs since 1878 after they had been forced to leave their mother country in the Caucasus following the Russian occupation. They were settled in Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, and the Balkan countries, which constituted a part of the Turkish Ottoman Empire at that time. More than 90% of them settled in turkey it self.

The founders' belonged to a bilingual generation, for they were will‑versed in Arabic language in terms of writing, speaking and reading, while they could perfectly speak and understand their Circassian mother tongue, which was not written yet.

The youths, who were primarily open to the culture of their time during the progressive evolution of the Jordanian state institutions realized that without recording all the components and types of their cultural heritage, they would be deprived of their own distinctive entity and ethnic affiliation, because their parents and grandparents did not perfect Arabic and also suffered from illiteracy in Circassian.

Circassian customs and traditions were strictly observed within circassian households and local communities, functioning as protective fence for their social and family cohesion.

Within this cultural and social atmosphere and openness to the period of Jordan's Arab renaissance, The club was founded to keep alive the circassian legacy and folklore with all its diverse elements and constituents. The club was defined as a cultural and sport club, for various games and sports were a very favorite activity for the young at that period, and provided convenient access to the newly founded club

The Club at Present

Now the club is linked to the world through its Internet site in addition to the above mentioned activities. The Club members also keep in constant touch with world development via an Internet club, which houses a number of computer systems. Further more, the Club carriers out cultural, sport and social activities for children and youths, particularly during summer vacations. To maintain a constant fresh intake, the Club organizes training courses in folkloric dancing for children to enable them join the Club Dancing Troupe in due time.

Sport Activities

Al-Jeel Al-Jadeed Club contributed to the development of sports in Jordan through participating in football, basketball, volleyball and table tennis games.

Club facilities

The club was founded and continued its progress using modest rented buildings with limited facilities. But in the mid nineteen seventies it built modern premises on a piece of land belonging to the Circassian charitable society in Amman. The new building is equipped with sports facilities for outdoor and indoor games.
